Notify me when its in stockThe VW Passat B6/B7 Steering Lock Emulator is designed to replace the OEM ESL/ELV steering lock module used in Volkswagen Passat models from 2006 to 2014. Steering lock failure is one of the most common issues on VW Passat vehicles and prevents the car from starting even when the key and immobilizer are fully functional.
This emulator replicates both the electronic steering lock module (ELV) and the Megamos 48/46 transponder key reader (base station). Proper programming is required before installation. Once programmed, the vehicle may operate in IMMO OFF mode, depending on the transponder type.
This model must be programmed using the MK2358 programming adapter and requires the original ELV steering lock to complete synchronization.
System Type: ESL/ELV Steering Lock Emulator (48/46 Transponder Type)
Fitment: VW Passat B6/B7 – 2006 to 2014
Operation: Programming Required (via MK2358 adapter)
Lock Sound: Built-in mechanical lock/unlock sound
LED Indicators:
• Green – READY
• Red – POWER
Condition: Brand New
Special Note: Requires original ELV unit for initial synchronization
Supported Transponders: Megamos 48 / Type 46 Proximity Key
The OEM steering lock in VW Passat B6/B7 models integrates:
Steering column lock motor
Megamos 48/46 transponder reader
ESL/ELV control electronics
This combined module frequently fails due to:
Mechanical wear
Steering lock motor failure
EEPROM corruption
Reader malfunction
When the steering lock does not activate:
The key is recognized
Ignition turns on
Vehicle does not start and may display steering lock errors
Dealership replacement requires ordering, coding, and installing a new ELV — an expensive and time-consuming process.
The MK3 Emulator acts as a full replacement for the ELV module and key reader once programmed.
Megamos 48 Transponder Type:
After programming, vehicle becomes IMMO OFF, allowing key programming via Comfort Module.
Type 46 Proximity Key:
Vehicle becomes IMMO OFF, but you cannot program new keys until the original ELV is reinstalled.
Remove the comfort module (located under front passenger seat).
Read the ST-M95320 EEPROM using any supported programmer (VVDI PROG, Orange5, etc.).
Save the EEPROM dump and write it into the emulator’s EEPROM.
Connect the MK2358 programming adapter.
Connect original ELV + MK3 emulator + OBD plug together.
LED will blink red/green for 2–3 minutes during synchronization.
When the LED turns green, programming is complete.
Remove the original ELV and install the MK3 emulator in its place.
Reinstall the comfort module.
Start the vehicle — the emulator now fully replaces the OEM steering lock.
