Notify me when its in stockThe MK3 BMW & MINI Steering Lock Emulator (MK2751) is an electronic replacement for the factory ELV/ESL steering column lock used on many BMW 3-Series, 5-Series, 6-Series and MINI models.
Mechanical failure of the steering lock is a very common reason for “no start” problems: the key turns, the dashboard wakes up, but the engine will not crank because the ELV module does not unlock or report its status correctly.
Instead of replacing the complete steering lock assembly and coding a new unit at the dealership, this plug-in emulator bypasses the defective ELV and restores start authorization instantly. No programming, adaptation or additional hardware is required.
The module connects directly to the original ELV harness and emulates all lock/unlock communication with the CAS (Car Access System), acting as a fully functional steering lock without mechanical parts.

⚙️ Technical Overview
The original BMW/MINI ELV unit is a mechanical lock driven by an electric motor and monitored by position sensors. Over time, the mechanism or motor can fail, causing:
ELV fault messages in the CAS module
Steering lock warning on the dashboard
Vehicle not starting even though a valid key is present
When the ELV cannot complete its locking/unlocking cycle, the CAS module blocks engine start. The MK2751 emulator replaces the steering lock electronically:
Connects in place of the original ELV via the same 4-pin plug
Simulates correct lock/unlock status messages to the CAS
Eliminates mechanical wear points and common ELV failure modes
Because it emulates a healthy steering lock, it solves the typical “Steering wheel lock defective” and related start-authorization issues without the need to fit and code a new OEM unit.
🛠️ Installation Instructions
Confirm that the steering wheel is in the unlocked position and the vehicle can be moved.
Disconnect the 4-wire ELV connector from the original steering lock module on the steering column.
Plug the same connector directly into the MK2751 steering lock emulator.
Clear any stored ELV / CAS fault codes with a diagnostic tool if necessary.
Insert the key and start the vehicle – the emulator will now behave as a working steering lock.
In some cases, existing CAS fault codes or counters must be reset using a capable diagnostic or key programming tool for the system to accept the emulator.
